Don’t Judge A Book By Its Cover

We tried a case in a suburban county last year in which our client was hurt while working underneath a tractor-trailer.

Discovery revealed that a forklift operator was careless as he was driving onto the trailer.

This lack of attention to detail caused our client’s injuries.

Of that mix, the person named jury foreperson was a tiny, retired female schoolteacher.

While it is common for one or a few jurors to take the lead in the jury room, none of the lawyers involved expected her to be a leader on the jury.

However, it was clear that she led the deliberations in returning a verdict for the plaintiff.

As it turned out, her family was in the trucking business, and she was well aware of the dangers that truck drivers face every day.

We were fortunate that we won, even though we “judged the book by its cover.”
